Rehabilitation of Bridge 00196, I-95 Over Route 1

Branford, CT

The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s project to rehabilitate Bridge 196 on I-95 in Branford and reconstruct its intersection with US Route 1 was perfectly suited to using Accelerated Bridge Construction methodologies, particularly because of the tight working conditions, high traffic volumes on both highways and the density of population and businesses in the immediate area. Even with the COVID-19 pandemic thrown into the mix, a team of 46 stakeholders and constructors, supported by a chain of specialized regional suppliers, adapted to significant changing conditions and safely delivered a well-built project, on the adjusted schedule and budget.
