As a builder, the thought of renovating and adding onto an 1896 National Register library is exhilarating. But the project languished for 12-years from lack of funding, and could have become quite daunting, understanding the quality required for this special place. Fortunately, the entire team –Board, Library Director, Staff, Silver Petrucelli + Associates, Trade Contractors and Downes Construction –all recognized that restoring this treasure was possible through creativity and fine craftsmanship. Today, administration is consolidated, the interior has been restacked with children’s services now on main level, and a beautiful new addition houses circulation, lobby and a rooftop terrace for events.
