Spotlight on and Tour of
United Illuminating Central
Facility -- the CBC 2013
Project Team of the Year
Award Winner
Tuesday, December 10, 2013
Learn from key members of the CBC 2013 Project Team of the Year how they used technology, teamwork, and best practices to take this significant project from concept to operation and see the results firsthand on the facility tour. The main goal of the consolidation and centralization of United Illuminating’s operations was to reduce future facility costs by $30 million over a 20-year period and to centralize field and operations crews to continually improve its quick response to customer interruptions, regardless of location.
As a registered utility serving 17 towns, this project presented especially unique requirements that required flawless execution that could only be achieved with exceptional collaboration and partnership between the owner, designers, and constructors. Even with unexpected program changes at a time when interior construction had begun, the team succeeded in building a LEED Gold facility that was completed ahead of schedule.

Continuing with our annual tradition, please bring with you an unwrapped toy or teen item to donate to Toys for Tots. Bring an item you think a youngster would like. No realistic-looking weapons or gifts containing food please. For pre-teens and teens, consider sporting equipment, hair styling items, backpacks, iTunes and other gift cards, board games, hand-held electronics, purses, or radio-controlled cars.
