“We are trying to get our agencies to move at the speed of business!”

“We are trying to get our agencies to move at the speed of business”, noted Catherine Smith, Commissioner, CT Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) at last night’s “3-D Vision” discussion put on by the Connecticut Building Congress (CBC).

Commissioner Smith, along with Macky McCleary, Deputy Commissioner for Environmental Quality, CT Department of Energy& Environmental Protection and James Redeker, Commissioner of CT Department of Transportation discussed the multiple ways the departments are working together to streamline their services to make Connecticut a better place to do business. The discussion focused on the key areas of easier permit processes, cooperation between departments and their ability to dramatically reduce response times to consumers and businesses in Connecticut.

Mr McCleary discussed energy transmission which is one of the greatest challenges to business development in Connecticut, especially Fairfield County. Mr Redeker’s discussion focused on the many challenges present in trying to improve Connecticut’s transportation infrastructure at a time when the state is at peak construction activity, as well as plans to improve public transportation for more citizens of Connecticut.
The CBC will hold its next program on April 8th at The Cascade in Hamden for a discussion of Connecticut’s Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy program (C-PACE) and how to take advantage of programs that provide low, fixed-rate long-term financing for qualifying energy efficiency and clean energy improvements to buildings. As Commissioner Smith mentioned last night, “if you do not know about C-PACE, find out about it.”
